City of Austin Safe Routes to School Program

Hello, Bowie High School Community!

The City of Austin’s Safe Routes to School program has been hard at work identifying improvements to help students walk and bike to Bowie High School. We are excited to share news about two Safe Routes projects coming to your area.

Safe Routes to School provides student safety education, crossing guards, and infrastructure improvements near elementary and middle schools. The 2016 and 2020 Mobility Bonds dedicated a combined $47.5 million for Safe Routes to School improvements. Funding is focused on Very High and High Priority projects citywide, and on projects where coordination with partners will provide the most cost-effective mobility and safety improvements.

Selected Projects for Bowie High School:

• New curb ramps, curb extensions, and pedestrian crossing island on Wolftrap Drive at the Bethany Lutheran Church driveway.

• New sidewalk on the east side of Wolftrap Drive from the Bethany Lutheran Church driveway to West Slaughter Lane.
