Kaylin Brett is the proud Academic Director of James Bowie High School. As Academic Director, she has the opportunity to work with all students to best support them academically, as well as socially and emotionally. Mrs. Brett works closely with the counseling team to ensure students have access to desired academic courses, electives, and extracurricular activities. Mrs. Brett also works directly with the Career and Technical Education Department. Mrs. Brett is a true believer in enhancing and supporting the whole child so that our students are prepared for any opportunity they face after high school.

Mrs. Brett knew her entire life that she wanted to be an educator. She attended the University of Texas to receive her undergraduate degree in History as well as getting her teaching certification through the UTeach Program. While student teaching, Mrs. Brett was assigned to Bowie High School, which is where she got her first taste of Bulldog Nation. After graduating, she then began her career in Houston ISD teaching United States History at Westside High School. After a few years, she moved back to Austin to pursue her masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Upon arriving to Austin, she was offered the opportunity to teach United States History at James Bowie High School. Mrs. Brett taught in the social studies department for seven years and served as student council sponsor. Mrs. Brett quickly felt at home and grew a strong commitment and bond to the entire Bowie community.

After completing her masters, Mrs. Brett then pursued a second masters degree in Educational Administration. While Mrs. Brett truly loved teaching the students and building relationships, she felt an obligation to support students and teachers campus wide. Mrs. Brett served as an Assistant Principal at Gorzycki Middle School. It was a true learning experience to work with middle schoolers, but to also grow connections with Bowie's largest feeder school. Mrs. Brett was thrilled to work with the future bulldogs. In the summer of 2021, Mrs. Brett was offered the position of Academic Director at James Bowie High School. The opportunity to come home in a position she has only dreamed became a reality.

Mrs. Brett is thrilled to serve as Bowie's Academic Director and is happy to help support all students on our campus. Mrs. Brett is a true believer of life-long learning, and advocates for students to learn not because they must but because they want to. Mrs. Brett wants all students to feel welcomed, safe, and happy at Bowie High School. Bulldog Nation is truly a special place, and Mrs. Brett hopes to ensure that all students, parents, and community members grow to love Bowie as much as her.
